We are deeply sad to announce that our friend and colleague Pr Caty Casas who was the first chair of the Cost Action TRANSAUTOPHAGY passed away on June 30, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Caty worked as an associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona at the Institute of Neuroscience where her research group focused on mechanisms involved in endogenous neuroprotection in the context of autophagy.
Caty recently founded NeuroHeal Biomedicals, a new technology-based company to develop a new treatment for peripheral nerve damage, as well as a product called NeuroHeal which stimulates autophagy.
Caty was an amazing and smart scientist, full of energy and goodness. Unfortunatly she couldn’t lead safely the whole period of the Action because of the sickness but we do not forget that the TransAutophagy network was her baby.
